Oct 11th, 2024 - The Daily Journal covers Michelle's race for House District 60 with her opponent who hasn't figured out term limits yet:

Democrat Michelle Higgs describes herself as a community leader, wife, mom of three and a Martinsville High School alumna. After moving back to Indiana from California in 2016, she became involved in local organizing around issues like the environment and healthcare and housing. But she found a lack of Democratic voices in the statehouse to hear those concerns.

“I was sitting with my neighbors, and we were talking about the impact of being gerrymandered, and sometimes you feel like, well, your vote doesn’t really much matter,” she said. “And so when voters don’t have a reason to turn out because nobody’s on their ballot that represents their values, then that can actually directly impact up ballot as well. So, that was one of the key reasons. If not now, when? And if not you, who?”

“I believe we need a state government that protects Hoosiers by stopping monopolistic business practices that create health care deserts. We need to prevent private equity companies from buying up medical practices to maximize profits, and we need to audit our Medicaid budget for administrative price gouging, rather than cover a budget shortfall by taking from our most vulnerable on Medicaid who can least afford it.”

Michelle Higgs, the Democrat running for Indiana House District 60, talks about health care policy during the voter forum held Wednesday at Franklin College.

June 6th, 2024 - Indiana Public Broadcasting: New high school diploma proposal sparks discussion among state officials, community

“Part of the solution must be to introduce academic success advisors for middle and high school students,” said Michelle Higgs, a community member and former PTA president. Higgs is also running as a Democrat to represent Indiana House District 60 in the November election.

“In college, most students have an undergraduate advisor who helps them chart academic progress, supports them with resources and helps them make informed decisions that allow for flexibility, even changing goals midway through. That same support must be available for Hoosier middle and high school students.”

May 29, 2024 - Michelle Higgs Pledges to Support Congressional Term Limits

Martinsville, IN – U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the national, non-partisan movement to limit terms for elected officials, is gathering support from state lawmakers across the nation. Its mission is to get 34 states to apply for an amendment proposal convention specific to term limits on Congress. Indiana state house candidate, Michelle Higgs (District 60), has committed support for term limits on Congress by signing the Term Limits Convention Pledge.

USTL President, Philip Blumel, commented on Higgs’s pledge saying, “Michelle’s strong support of term limits shows that there are individuals who are willing to listen to the majority of voters who want term limits. America needs a Congress that will be served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”
